Based on true events that took place in 1975 during Indira Gandhi's leadership
Top Comment: I actually want to watch this now, since it may not be pure propaganda. I also really want to see Milind Soman as Sam Manekshaw
Emergency medicine, do you feel respected
Main Post: Emergency medicine, do you feel respected
Top Comment: Everyone shits on the ED until an undifferentiated, unstable acutely ill patient is dropped at their feet. We make work for other people, so they don't like us. The culture changes out of residency and academia, immediately felt more respected
What is something that came into the ER and you were like why but then turned into a medical emergency?
Main Post:
Title says it all. Anyone have any stories of someone presenting in the ER with something random and then it turns into a medical emergency or serious issue?
Top Comment: I went to the ER - drove myself there- because my chest felt “funny”. This is what I told triage too. I was 19, with an eating disorder but relatively healthy. Doctor comes in, talks to me. I’m completely cognizant. He orders a pysch consult. I cannot shake that something more is wrong and I demanded blood work. To appease me he orders a basic metabolic panel. Welp. I knew the moment that blood work came back and was read. My potassium was 1.2. And I had developed a life threatening arrhythmia. That was why my chest felt off. The doctor was shocked. Not only was it was it the lowest the doctor had ever seen in his entire career, he couldn’t believe I was conscious. I spent the next 8 days in the ICU with two continuous IVs of Potassium. They couldn’t even dilute it- and potassium does burn. A lot.
